Director of Substance Abuse Prevention Services

The Director is responsible for the effective delivery of community and school prevention programs in Schenectady County. They will develop and implement school and community based services including the program work plan prevention curriculum, community and school based training, community coalitions and also provide program and staff supervision. The Director position is both administrative and direct service. The Director will represent the agency in community projects with school districts, agencies and community leaders.


Qualifications:

-MA/MS in human services or education preferred; BA/BS minimum, 3-5 years experience in schools or the community in the field of prevention education.

-Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS) Certification REQUIRED.Excellent oral and written communication skills. 

-Strong organizational skills, the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

-Ability to train and supervise school and community based prevention coordinators.

-Experience planning and implementing prevention/wellness events and organizing community groups.

-Ability to network and serve as a resource to other human services, business and education groups. 


School Prevention Specialist

Full time, 12 month position (requires flexible schedule)

Responsible for the implementation of primarily school based substance abuse and gambling prevention programming in Schenectady County. Specialist will work as part of a prevention team. School based services include curriculum based work with students and parents, school staff training and serving as a consultant to school administration and staff along with community groups


Qualifications:

-MA/MS in education, psychology, social work or counseling preferred; BA/BS minimum, 3-5 years experience in schools in the field of prevention education.

-Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS) Certification preferred.

-Excellent oral and written communication skills.

-Strong organizational skills, the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

-Ability to serve as a resource to school and prevention team staff.


Substance Abuse Prevention Coordinator (2 positions available)

Full time, 12 month position (requires flexible schedule)

Responsible for the implementation of school and community based substance abuse and gambling prevention programming in Schenectady County. Serve as substance abuse and gambling prevention educator, an advocate and a model for all community members. Work with a variety of youth and adults throughout the county to educate and build prevention coalitions and advocacy groups. Work as a part of the prevention team.


Qualifications:

-Associates degree preferred, 3-5 years experience in human services.

-Credentialed Prevention Professional (CPP) or Credentialed Prevention Specialist (CPS) Certification preferred.

-Excellent oral and written communication skills.

-Strong organizational skills, the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

-Experience planning and implementing event and organizing groups.


Residential Counselor-Per Diem

New Choices Recovery Center, a comprehensive chemical dependency treatment provider in Schenectady, has employment opportunities for per-diem Residential Counselors in our Community Residential programs. Duties include care coordination, medication oversight, individual/group counseling and record keeping. Candidates must have prior experience in human services with preference given to individuals with CASAC, CASAC-T and/or Bachelor degree.

   

Certified Peer Recovery Advocate

New Choices Recovery Center, a comprehensive Chemical Dependency Treatment provider in Schenectady, has full-time and part time opportunities for Certified Recovery Peer Advocates. Certified Recovery Peer Advocates assist individuals in recovery from mental health and addiction with setting and pursuing their recovery goals, monitoring their progress, lending assistance with treatment, modeling effective coping techniques and self-help strategies and supporting self-advocacy. Candidates must have a valid Recovery Peer Advocate Certification from the New York Certification Board, familiarity with 12-step meetings, be able to cooperate and work as a team with clinicians and community resources, and must have reliable means of transportation.
